Who started mother's Day and why??

Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, whose mother had organized women's groups to promote friendship and health, originated Mother's Day. On May 12, 1907, she held a memorial service at her late mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia. Within five years virtually every state was observing the day, and in 1914 U.S. Pres.

When did we start celebrating Mother's Day in Australia?

Australia first officially celebrated Mother’s Day in 1924.

Sydney woman Janet Heyden began the tradition because she wanted to help the lonely, elderly mothers at a hospital she visited.

Ms Heyden asked schools and businesses to donate gifts to the women at the hospital, many of whom had lost their husbands and sons in World War I or had never been wives or mothers because of the war.

Why is Mother's Day different in Australia?

The Mother's Day date in Australia is the same as the date observed in the United States. However, in the UK, Mother's Day is observed on the fourth Sunday of Lent. This is over one month before Mother's Day in Australia. Other countries around the world have adapted an alternate date to celebrate Mother's Day.
