There are no two ways about it, the Mandevilla is one of our unsung hero’s here at Green Thumb Gifts.
This beautiful creeper has a lengthy flowering period and over time should be staked to support the long stems. This can look really beautiful if done with care :-)
Here are some tips for growing a happy and healthy Mandevilla...
Put your plant in a sunroom or by a sunny window. Moving your Mandevilla outdoors for the summer will give it more blooming power. A semi-sunny spot outdoors is ideal. Just remember that direct sunlight can burn it’s beautiful delicate petals though.
Mandevilla species are mostly frost tender and prefer a mild to warm climate, a position in dappled sunlight, and moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil.
To create a bushier look, Mandevilla stems can be pinched ¼ - ½ inch from the tip. This will encourage bushier foliage.
During the Summer months the Mandevilla will thrive on regular fertilisation. Something high is phosphorus and water soluble will do the trick.
Well, that’s our low down on the Mandevilla. We hope this has been helpful adn encouraged you to support the quiet achiever :-)
