Supporting Regional Margaret River: Hampers with a Cause
Author: Taylor Date Posted:22 October 2020
Australia’s regional areas have been in despair, especially in 2020 with the bushfires, drought and now recession. That’s why Edible Blooms have created hampers with a cause: to support our regional areas. We’ve previously talked about aiding the Barossa region of South Australia in our Cheese And Wine Hampers: What To Include blog, which includes some handy tips on building your own cheese and wine hamper. For now, we want to focus on another stunning regional area of Australia: Margaret River. Margaret River is a small town south of Perth in Western Australia. The region boasts award-winning wineries and restaurants, extraordinary beaches with world-class surf breaks, ancient caves, and tall-timber forests.

If you’ve been lucky enough to have visited the Margaret River region of Western Australia, you would understand the absolute beauty of the area. With the rugged southwest coastline littered with shipwrecks - even one of the region’s most admired wineries, the Ringbolt, is named after one of the ships. Margaret River may only produce less than three per cent of Australia’s wine, but it creates more than fifteen per cent of the country’s premium wine.
We love this region and all of its incredible offerings so much, we’ve curated a few of our favourite Margaret River products, companies and experiences below.
Regional Wine and Nougat Experience with Bettenays
Bettenays has been a prominent vineyard site of the Margaret River region since 1989. The property is spread over 25 acres and creates Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and Chardonnay. 2012 saw an extension built to the main building which now houses a nougat kitchen, and a nougat and wine tasting area.
Speaking of nougat, we love the Bettenay’s Roasted Coffee and Almond Nougat Log. It’s a mouth-watering combination of oven-roasted coffee beans infused with a dark chocolate blend, and heavily toasted South Australian almonds - how delicious! The Bettenays estate allows you to view the nougat making process and tantalise your tastebuds with a FREE nougat tasting. They also offer multiple combined wine and nougat tastings. We recommend the Nougat & Wine Pairing Brunch & Tour so you can experience a guided tour of the renowned property and enjoy brunch with Greg Bettenay, the owner and operator of Bettenays Margaret River. Can’t make it in person? Bettenays offers a virtual wine and nougat tasting where you will receive a tasting pack of:
- 6X 100ml Bottles of Wine/Liqueur
- 2 Nougat Flavours
- Tasting Notes
- Zoom Access Code to Join the Tasting Group

Ah, coffee. Where would we be without our favourite caffeinated beverage? Those early morning commutes and fortnightly catchups with friends would be nothing without a hot coffee in hand. There’s also nothing like making your own coffee, and one of the best ways to indulge in your morning brew is with ethically sourced coffee beans from Margaret River Roasting Co. The company was born out of the vision to source exceptional coffee with a local twist.
Some of our favourite blends include:
- Midnight - With notes of Cocoa, Currant and Milk Chocolate, this blend creates a beautiful milk coffee or a smooth, balanced black coffee.
- The Daily - Infused with Salted Caramel, Hazelnut, and Dark Chocolate flavours, it makes the perfect morning cuppa.

Despite coffee being the mainstream caffeinated drink, tea is a superior beverage. You can drink it during the morning, day and even enjoy a decaffeinated tea as an after-dinner digestive aid. It’s been sipped on since 2737 BC, more than 5000 years ago, and originates from Ancient China. Tea has a rich history, and its origins date back to Shen Jung, an emperor, scholar and herbalist. The legend goes that leaves from an overhanging tree fell into his boiling cauldron of water, and so tea was born.
Some of our favourite Margaret River tea comes from Yahava. Don’t be fooled by their decadent coffee offerings, Yahava sources premium leaf teas like our favourite flavour, the Earl Grey Loose Leaf Tea. It creates the perfect black tea which is blended with Italian bergamot oranges to really showcase the naturally flavoured aspects of the tea.
