Edible Blooms in the Community

At Edible Blooms we believe in supporting the communities that support our business. We believe that we are blessed to operate in such an abundant country and it is our responsibility to assist those that are not so fortunate. And we believe that as a team of young entrepreneurial women, we should help all women to achieve their full potential and live long, healthy and rewarding lives. It's all about working together!

With these beliefs in mind, we provide support through the following channels:

The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF)

OCRF

In Australia, one woman dies every ten hours of ovarian cancer. There is no simple or effective screening test for the disease, which means that most women diagnosed are already in the advanced stages of the disease.

There is a marked difference in survival rates if ovarian cancer is detected early. That's why the OCRF is committed to developing an early detection test and improving the mortality rate and long-term wellbeing of women with ovarian cancer.

Edible Blooms has partnered with the OCRF to help raise funds for this much needed research. Launching the partnership with a $5,000 donation in March 2011, Edible Blooms continues to support the OCRF by donating $10 from the sale of each special edition Silver Ribbon Bouquet to the cause. You can view and purchase these bouquets here, in Medium and Large sizes.

To learn more about the OCRF and make a donation, visit www.ocrf.com.au

Opportunity International Australia (Opportunity)

OIA

Opportunity International Australia provides small loans to families in developing countries to help them start a business, earn an income and leave poverty behind. By helping a mother buy a sewing machine to start a tailoring business or a father buy seeds to plant a vegetable garden, small loans enable them to transform their lives, their children’s futures and their communities. With 98% of loans recycled, the impact continues year after year.

In June 2010, Edible Blooms donated $10,000 to Opportunity to help microfinance clients in West Timor. With 98% of loans paid back and recycled, these funds will continue to assist communities in poverty for years to come.

In-Kind Donations

Edible Blooms is committed to supporting the local communities of our stores in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Each year we donate products to local community organisations, schools and charities to assist their fundraising efforts. In 2009 and 2011, Edible Blooms also donated money from the sale of blooms to the recovery funds established for the 2009 Victorian Bushfires and 2011 Queensland Floods.

Please note that due to an ever increasing number of requests, we have actually already reached capacity for donations this year, we will however be opening up again for expressions of interest in January 2015.

Flowers, especially roses, have traditionally been the go-to gift to show someone you care and that they’re on your mind. Incredibly, flower delivery services have been around for over a century. The first ones relied on telegrams to allocate orders between florists in a network of cities. This was a far cry from today’s DIY shopping from online florists and gift services. Now you can order almost any kind of gift and have it delivered to a home address, work place or anywhere else. In Australia, edible flower arrangements and online flower deliveries overcome the distance between capital cities and make it easy to send same day delivery and overnight gifts to Melbo...

While most people know gin as a popular alcoholic beverage, its original purpose was far from it. Gin originates from Franciscus Sylvius, a 17th-century professor of medicine from Holland. In fact, gin actually gets its name from the Dutch word for juniper, genever. If Franciscus’ profession didn’t give it away, gin was originally made for medicinal purposes. The juniper berry — the key ingredient in gin — was distilled with spirits to produce a medicine with the diuretic properties of juniper-berry oil. Some say that there was a rise in patients with certain “ailments" because they wanted to try out this new medicine. ...
